PREPARATION OF SOLUBLE SALTS - METHOD 1
Diagram showing the Filtration of Mixture to Remove Excess Base
METHOD:

  • Add dilute Acid into a beaker and heat using a bunsen burner flame
  • Add the insoluble base in small amounts and stir until base is in excess (base stops disappearing and a suspension of base forms in acid)
  • Filter mixture into an evaporating basin to remove the excess base
  • Leave the filtrate in a warm place to dry and crystallize
  • Decant excess solution
  • Blot crystals dry
